General Description

Bulb leaves imbricate, white, formed by cataphylls and bases of foliage leaves of 2-3 vegetation periods. Tunic brown or blackish, purple inside. Scapes 1 (-3 ), succulent, terete; raceme lax. Bracts and prophylls short. Pedicels comparatively short. Perigone blue, connate 3/5 to 2/3, free parts reflexed. Ovary green, ellipsoid. Locules 6-8- ovulate. Style short. Capsule succulent. Seeds globose, blackish brown, with or without elaiosome formed by exostome and parts of the raphe. Cotyledon epigeal.
